Opinion

SINCE this menace is getting more and more rampant, I would like to warn the public to be very careful when they are paying for their purchases with big notes e.g. RM50.

There is a growing trend where customers are fleeced in a subtle manner and many do not even realise that they have been cheated, especially those who carry several big notes in their wallet.

The modus operandi is very simple. When the customer pays using a RM50 note, the change is given back to the customer, not altogether but in two stages. The small denominations with the coins are given first.

If the customer is distracted, he will walk off without the rest of the change.

Dishonest people e.g. hawkers/traders/ cashiers will then pocket the change. Should the customer return, they will usually hand over the money claiming that the customer did not heed their calls. Some will even argue their way out.

I am aware of this subtle fleecing, yet I have ended up being cheated more than once.

 UNHAPPY VICTIM,

Penang.
