KUALA LUMPUR: Motorcycle buyers who already have a safety helmet need only buy one helmet and a safety vest, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy.  

Under the proposed new Road Safety Act, it will be compulsory for people who buy motorcycles to buy two helmets as well.  “But if they already have a helmet, they can buy one helmet and a safety vest, which makes the rider more visible to other road users,” Chan said here yesterday.   “I understand that most dealers are already giving one helmet free when they sell a motorcycle. This practice is most welcome and encouraged.”  Chan said that Road Safety Bill was already in the final stages of drafting and would be tabled in the coming session of Parliament
